Google.ie | Distinct from the UK | Dublin Tech Hub
Ireland is English-language, which tempts businesses into assuming UK content will simply work here — and that assumption is the most common mistake we correct. Google.ie is its own results set with its own local businesses ranking, Irish English carries real vocabulary differences from British English, and Dublin in particular hosts an unusually large concentration of multinational tech companies' European headquarters alongside a genuinely strong indigenous start-up scene.
Ireland is not "the UK with a different flag"
Irish English differs from British English in specific, commercially relevant ways — different terms for public services, different regulatory bodies, different everyday vocabulary — and Irish search results surface different local competitors than the equivalent UK search, even for an apparently identical query. Content simply reused from a UK site, with a currency symbol swapped, reads as not-quite-local to an Irish buyer.
How we research keywords for Ireland
We build from Google.ie search data specifically, checking results from within Ireland rather than assuming UK data transfers. Dublin's dense tech and multinational-HQ presence creates a specific vocabulary of its own — SaaS, fintech and professional-services terms that behave more like a global B2B market than a typical local one — while the rest of the country behaves more like a conventional local-services market.
How we read Irish competitors
Ireland's market is small enough that competitor sets are usually well known within a sector. We check keyword overlap on Google.ie and read competitor pages for genuine local relevance versus reused UK or US content, using Screaming Frog to audit technical structure.
Authority, AEO and the fundamentals
Genuine Irish authority comes from Chambers Ireland, sector-specific Irish trade bodies, Irish media, and — for Dublin's tech sector — the genuinely active local start-up and multinational-HQ community. AEO, technical SEO and on-page SEO apply as elsewhere, built for Ireland's own market rather than borrowed from a UK strategy.
